Draft Grade — Steelers

FutureC-
The Steelers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Steelers spent the 185th overall pick on Tyler Batty, a name the board had a full 59 spots lower. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Starks falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
Tetairoa McMillan at Round 1, Pick 21 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick42
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
A quiet steal in the 42nd overall pick: Derrick Harmon for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick53
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
They barely believed it either: Malaki Starks still on the board at slot 53. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick62
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
They read the board right and TreVeyon Henderson was the payoff at pick 62. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick185
Rnd6
Tyler Batty
Tyler Batty at the 185th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick229
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
The board had cheaper options than Cam Jackson at the Round 7 slot, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
