cwm2 DRAFTING FOR THEBills
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bills
Overall

FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Bills: B-. The Luke Lachey pick is the one that will follow the Bills into the fall. They took him 35 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They banked enough surplus on Horton to cover a lot of smaller sins. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 7 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with offensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In pick 30 they get a load in the middle, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick56
Rnd2
Jack Sawyer
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jack Sawyer. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick62
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick109
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
They let Kevin Winston Jr. come to them and pounced at pick No. 109. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick132
Rnd4
Tory Horton
Tory Horton in the 132nd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick169
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in slot 169 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick170
Rnd5
Raheim Sanders
They jumped the gun on Raheim Sanders, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
Pick173
Rnd5
Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser at slot 173 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick177
Rnd6
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at the 177th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick206
Rnd6
Luke Elzinga
They liked Luke Elzinga enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 206. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
