Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesA FutureC+
Nix is the plan now, and the Patriots grade out a B.

Start where it matters. The Patriots took Bo Nix to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

If Jones pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The McMillan pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The Stover pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with safety and running back still on the board.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.

Pick Analysis
Pick19 Rnd1 Bo Nix
In the 19th overall pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick23 Rnd1 Keon Coleman
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan at the Round 2 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick38 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Chop Robinson in pick No. 38. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick68 Rnd3 T'Vondre Sweat
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and T'Vondre Sweat at slot 68 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick71 Rnd3 Ja'Lynn Polk
A quiet steal in the 71st pick: Ja'Lynn Polk for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick90 Rnd3 Cade Stover
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cade Stover at TE-EDGE with safety and running back open.
Pick103 Rnd4 Jalen McMillan
Steal is underselling it; Jalen McMillan at pick 103 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick104 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves at the 104th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick139 Rnd5 Ben Sinnott
They took Ben Sinnott at par in pick No. 139, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick182 Rnd6 Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford at the Round 6 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick224 Rnd7 Matthew Jones
Value said wait; Matthew Jones in Round 7, Pick 4 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
Pick232 Rnd7 Maurice Smith
Maurice Smith in slot 232 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
