Draft Grade — Colts

FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Colts. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Colts spent the 87th pick on Mitchell Evans, a name most had 60 spots down the list.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. Spending an early pick on cornerback with wide receiver, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. However the rest shakes out, Barron at that price is a win they earned.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In the 23rd pick they get a ballhawk on the outside, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at slot 45 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick54
Rnd2
Darien Porter
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Darien Porter in Round 2, Pick 22 leaves wide receiver, quarterback and other spots for later.
Pick80
Rnd3
Jared Ivey
No edge and no loss on Jared Ivey in pick No. 80; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick87
Rnd3
Mitchell Evans
They reached a country mile for Mitchell Evans at No. 87, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa in pick 117 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick151
Rnd5
RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey at pick 151 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick189
Rnd6
Jalen McLeod
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jalen McLeod this early at Round 6, Pick 13. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick232
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson in the 232nd overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
