Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall D
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The Commanders bet the future on Daniels. The board says D.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Commanders did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The Solomon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, running back and other spots still on the board. The Holker reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

However the rest shakes out, Brade at that price is a win they earned.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Jayden Daniels
In pick 5 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. is a better player than the 36th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick40 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
Fair-plus on Jordan Morgan, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 3, Pick 3 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick99 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Khyree Jackson at the Round 3 slot is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick101 Rnd4 Javon Solomon
A surprising call. With edge rusher, running back and other spots still to address, they spent slot 101 on Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE they were not short of.
Pick138 Rnd5 Dallin Holker
They reached into another round for Dallin Holker, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick178 Rnd6 Beau Brade
You do not let a safety like Beau Brade reach the 178th overall pick and blink. They did not. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick222 Rnd7 Garret Greenfield
A straight-up fair deal on Garret Greenfield at the 222nd pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
