Draft Grade — Chiefs

The Chiefs won the night they stopped Etienne from sliding. Grade: B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Trevor Etienne at the 256th pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.

The Porter pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver, tight end and other spots still on the board. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Every board in the league had Jackson lower, and that gap is the story.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In pick No. 31 they get an anchor for the defensive front, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick63 Rnd2 Trey Amos
Trey Amos in the 63rd overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick66 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
A reach for Donovan Jackson in pick 66; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick95 Rnd3 Darien Porter
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Darien Porter while clear needs at wide receiver, tight end and other spots sat open.
Pick132 Rnd4 Emery Jones Jr.
They let Emery Jones Jr. come to them and pounced at Round 4, Pick 31. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick256 Rnd7 Trevor Etienne
You do not let a running back like Trevor Etienne reach No. 256 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
