Draft Grade — Cowboys

More right than wrong for the Cowboys, and a B- to prove it.

Nobody else had Jordan Toles anywhere near the Round 7 slot. The Cowboys did, by 22 spots, and that gap is the whole story. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. Haynes at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick56 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
No drama and no debate, T'Vondre Sweat went about where he belonged in pick 56. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick87 Rnd3 Christian Haynes
They read the board right and Christian Haynes was the payoff at the 87th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick124 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
By-the-book stuff, Cedric Gray at slot 124 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick174 Rnd5 Christian Jones
The board had cheaper options than Christian Jones at the 174th overall pick, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick212 Rnd6 Myles Jones
A tidy bit of business in No. 212, where Myles Jones graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick245 Rnd7 Jordan Toles
Value said wait; Jordan Toles in the 245th pick says they were not listening. It adds depth where they could use a little.
