Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueC- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB
The Cowboys fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B.

The Cowboys ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The Knight pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Nick Bolton pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the 29th pick they get a building block for the line, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick56 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cooper Beebe in Round 2, Pick 24, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick87 Rnd3 Tyrice Knight
Tyrice Knight in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick124 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
They paid a round early for Cedric Gray in slot 124, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick174 Rnd5 Christian Jones
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Christian Jones. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick212 Rnd6 Myles Jones
By-the-book stuff, Myles Jones at No. 212 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick245 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
Joshua Cephus at the 245th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
