Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D+.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 88 spots for Thor Griffith, and value like that does not grow back. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D+ is the result.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Paul Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In No. 13 they get an every-down engine for the run game, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Luther Burden III
Luther Burden III at the 33rd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick78 Rnd3 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at Round 3, Pick 14 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick104 Rnd4 Jaxson Dart
Value said wait; Jaxson Dart in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
Pick168 Rnd5 Chris Paul Jr.
Chris Paul Jr. at pick No. 168 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick170 Rnd5 Michael Taaffe
The board fumbled Michael Taaffe all the way to pick 170, and they scooped it up. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jay Higgins
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jay Higgins in pick 171, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick189 Rnd6 Thor Griffith
A wild overpay on Thor Griffith in the 189th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick209 Rnd6 Joey Slackman
Joey Slackman at slot 209 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick248 Rnd7 Garrett Dellinger
They liked Garrett Dellinger enough to skip the value, taking him in the 248th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
