Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureA+
The Bears bled value on every deal, hence the D. The Bears clearly saw something nobody else did in Kai Kroeger, taking him 210 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.
The Ayomanor steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. It is not that Kroeger is a bad player; it is that the Bears had louder needs to answer first.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Shavon Revel Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get an island corner, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick20
Rnd1
Princely Umanmielen
In pick No. 20 they get a bendy edge with upside, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
A reach for TreVeyon Henderson in the 40th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick53
Rnd2
Matthew Golden
Matthew Golden at the Round 2 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick74
Rnd3
Kai Kroeger
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots to take Kai Kroeger, a specialist that was not the priority.
Pick121
Rnd4
Isaiah Bond
You do not let a wide receiver like Isaiah Bond reach pick 121 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick148
Rnd5
Robbie Ouzts
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Robbie Ouzts well ahead of where he belonged. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick152
Rnd5
Devin Neal
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Devin Neal in the 152nd overall pick, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick182
Rnd6
Marcus Mbow
They robbed the room for Marcus Mbow here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick197
Rnd6
Chandler Martin
A big swing on Chandler Martin at pick 197, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick232
Rnd7
Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray in the 232nd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick233
Rnd7
Elic Ayomanor
Circle this one: Elic Ayomanor at slot 233 is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick240
Rnd7
Marques Sigle
A real head-scratcher, Marques Sigle in Round 7, Pick 24 is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
