Draft Grade — Lions
Overall D-
ValueD NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Lions to a D-.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Lions spent the 102nd overall pick on Luke Elzinga, a name the board had a full 113 spots lower. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Loveland. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.

They punted on offensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. With offensive lineman, running back and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on specialist is the choice that costs them.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Landon Jackson
In the 28th overall pick they get a problem off the edge, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick60 Rnd2 Quinn Ewers
This one needs a full-page explanation: Quinn Ewers in pick No. 60, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick102 Rnd3 Luke Elzinga
A curious use of the Round 3 slot. Offensive lineman, running back and other spots needed the pick; a specialist in Luke Elzinga did not.
Pick130 Rnd4 Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland at Round 4, Pick 28 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick181 Rnd6 Donovan Smith
Donovan Smith in No. 181 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick196 Rnd6 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at pick 196 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick228 Rnd7 Jackson Woodard
Jackson Woodard in slot 228 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick244 Rnd7 Aydan White
Aydan White at the 244th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
