Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Raiders. There is reaching, and then there is Jeremy Crawshaw at the 68th pick. The Raiders jumped the board by 187 and dared it to prove them wrong. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Campbell. The Raiders indulged a want in Crawshaw while a need in cornerback, wide receiver and other spots stayed open. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Kelvin Banks Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick37
Rnd2
Mike Green
Mike Green at slot 37 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick68
Rnd3
Jeremy Crawshaw
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jeremy Crawshaw adds a specialist and leaves cornerback, wide receiver and other spots untouched.
Pick108
Rnd4
Kaleb Johnson
Steal is underselling it; Kaleb Johnson at the 108th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick143
Rnd5
Karene Reid
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Karene Reid well ahead of where he belonged. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick180
Rnd6
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at the 180th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick213
Rnd6
DJ Giddens
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 213 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick215
Rnd6
Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes at Round 6, Pick 39 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick222
Rnd7
RJ Harvey
A top-tier running back at a bargain, RJ Harvey in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
