The Steelers let Pierce fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

You can draft well and still miss the point. The Steelers did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to quarterback, which was the need that mattered most. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

Pierce at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Reaching for James left real value on the table behind him.

The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
