Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Commanders let Borregales fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched Andres Borregales slide 99 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will need Campbell to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
In pick No. 29 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick61 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
The board fumbled Jihaad Campbell all the way to the Round 2 slot, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick79 Rnd3 Kaleb Johnson
Taking Kaleb Johnson in No. 79 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Pick146 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
A safety of that caliber at slot 146 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick203 Rnd6 DJ Campbell
A reach on DJ Campbell in pick 203; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick236 Rnd7 Brant Kuithe
Somehow Brant Kuithe was still sitting there in the 236th pick, and they pounced on premier tight end value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick247 Rnd7 Andres Borregales
Circle this one: Andres Borregales at Round 7, Pick 31 is a fall that decides a draft. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
