DaBears DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bears let Starks fall and pounced. Final grade: B. Call it larceny. Malaki Starks sat on the board until the 72nd overall pick, and the Bears did not need to be asked twice.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In the 10th pick they get a workhorse for the backfield. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Value with a capital V on Kenneth Grant in Round 2, Pick 7, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jalon Walker in the Round 2 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick72
Rnd3
Malaki Starks
You do not let a safety like Malaki Starks reach pick No. 72 and blink. They did not. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick148
Rnd5
Emery Jones Jr.
A tidy little value on Emery Jones Jr. in slot 148, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick233
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
They will replay Luke Lachey at No. 233 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick240
Rnd7
Ja'Corey Brooks
Ja'Corey Brooks at pick 240 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
