Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall F
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureD
A passer of the future in Williams, and a F, for the Cowboys.

The phones were a trap the Cowboys kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.

So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. Every board in the league had Raym lower, and that gap is the story.

Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with cornerback still staring back at them.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In pick 1 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value.
Pick36 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
A reach on Edgerrin Cooper in the 36th overall pick; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick40 Rnd2 Kris Jenkins
A conviction pick on Kris Jenkins at pick No. 40 that the board grades a round light. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick56 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick67 Rnd3 Trey Benson
Trey Benson at the 67th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick87 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
A premium they did not need to pay, Christian Mahogany a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick174 Rnd5 Layden Robinson
Layden Robinson in Round 5, Pick 38 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick216 Rnd6 Andrew Raym
They talked themselves into Andrew Raym at No. 216, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick233 Rnd7 Tayvion Robinson
They took Tayvion Robinson at par in the 233rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick244 Rnd7 LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson at pick No. 244 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
