DraftCompass DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Bears a B-. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Bears took Phillip Webb at pick No. 240, roughly 112 spots before his name belonged. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
On value alone, Ersery makes the weekend a net positive. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
They paid sticker price for Tyler Warren in No. 10, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick39
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the 39th pick is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick41
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the running back. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick72
Rnd3
Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery in Round 3, Pick 8 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick148
Rnd5
Upton Stout
They reached a country mile for Upton Stout at the 148th overall pick, and the board is aghast. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick233
Rnd7
Cooper Mays
Cooper Mays at pick No. 233 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick240
Rnd7
Phillip Webb
Phillip Webb in the 240th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
