Tc2324 DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections

Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Patriots a B-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 67 spots for Gino Garcia, and value like that does not grow back. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Judkins. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
In pick 4 they get a sticky cover corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick38
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
They liked Aireontae Ersery enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 38. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick69
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
They paid up for Ozzy Trapilo at the 69th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick77
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
The board had Quinshon Judkins higher than the Round 3 slot, and the running back fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick106
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
Value with a capital V on Kevin Winston Jr. in the 106th pick, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick144
Rnd5
Aeneas Peebles
No drama and no debate, Aeneas Peebles went about where he belonged in slot 144. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick220
Rnd7
Karene Reid
Karene Reid at pick No. 220 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick236
Rnd7
Gino Garcia
Gino Garcia at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick238
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
They did well to land Cam Jackson in Round 7, Pick 22, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick241
Rnd7
Drew Kendall
A big swing on Drew Kendall at the 241st overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
