Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the 49ers, and a B- to prove it.

The 49ers spent real capital to be 44 picks early on Tyreak Sapp, and the board is going to hold them to it. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

The Freeling pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 KC Concepcion
In pick 28 they get a home-run threat at receiver, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick59 Rnd2 Tyreak Sapp
They reached into another round for Tyreak Sapp, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
Pick92 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
They jumped the gun on D'Angelo Ponds, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick127 Rnd4 Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling at slot 127 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133 Rnd4 Logan Jones
Logan Jones at pick No. 133 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick139 Rnd4 Tim Keenan III
Tim Keenan III at No. 139 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick172 Rnd5 Monroe Mills
They took Monroe Mills at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
