Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall A-
ValueA- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB+
The Dolphins cashed the board's mistake on Green: A-.

You build a draft on nights like this. Trey'Dez Green had no business being available in slot 60, and the Dolphins did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.

Pick Analysis
Pick19 Rnd1 Colin Simmons
In pick 19 they get juice off the edge, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43 Rnd2 Justin Scott
The board fumbled Justin Scott all the way to slot 43, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick60 Rnd2 Trey'Dez Green
Trey'Dez Green in pick No. 60 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75 Rnd3 Mario Craver
Taking Mario Craver in Round 3, Pick 11 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick87 Rnd3 Luke Montgomery
They let Luke Montgomery come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick91 Rnd3 Ben Roberts
Ben Roberts at the 91st overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick93 Rnd3 Samson Okunlola
They will replay Samson Okunlola at No. 93 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick111 Rnd4 Dylan Raiola
They took Dylan Raiola at par in the 111th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick149 Rnd5 Hollywood Smothers
Hollywood Smothers at the 149th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick167 Rnd5 Mateen Ibirogba
A edge rusher of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 29 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick227 Rnd7 Landen Hatchett
Landen Hatchett in the 227th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
