Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesC FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Cowboys: B-.

The Cowboys did not so much draft Davin Vann as overpay for him, 39 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

Getting Pegues where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
In pick No. 18 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49 Rnd2 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson in Round 2, Pick 17 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick76 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
A straight-up fair deal on Andrew Mukuba at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick82 Rnd3 Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo slid further than he should have, and No. 82 is lovely value for the tight end. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick119 Rnd4 Kobe King
The board had cheaper options than Kobe King at slot 119, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick149 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune in the 149th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick174 Rnd5 Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten in Round 5, Pick 36 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Pick204 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues is a better player than pick No. 204 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick211 Rnd6 Joshua Gray
No edge and no loss on Joshua Gray in slot 211; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick217 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
A reach on Carson Vinson in the 217th overall pick; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick239 Rnd7 Davin Vann
They reached a country mile for Davin Vann at pick 239, and the board is aghast. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick247 Rnd7 Dante Trader Jr.
Dante Trader Jr. at the 247th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
