Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesC FutureB-
The Cowboys won the night they stopped Blue from sliding. Grade: B-.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Jaydon Blue tumbling to the Cowboys in pick No. 211 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.

The cost of the Gillotte reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
In the 18th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick44 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
They paid sticker price for Kaleb Johnson in Round 2, Pick 12, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick76 Rnd3 Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte in No. 76 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick82 Rnd3 Danny Stutsman
By-the-book stuff, Danny Stutsman at pick No. 82 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick149 Rnd5 Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra at the 149th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick174 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
The board fumbled O'Donnell Fortune all the way to pick 174, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick204 Rnd6 Nazir Stackhouse
They paid up for Nazir Stackhouse at slot 204 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick211 Rnd6 Jaydon Blue
Somehow Jaydon Blue was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier running back value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick217 Rnd7 Caleb Rogers
Nice patience on Caleb Rogers, who had no business lasting to pick No. 217. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick239 Rnd7 Jermari Harris
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jermari Harris. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick247 Rnd7 Hunter Wohler
They reached a country mile for Hunter Wohler at the 247th pick, and the board is aghast. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
