Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesC+
FutureB-
The Steelers kept it disciplined and banked a B-. The war room fell hard for Jaylan Ford, and it showed at pick 174: 31 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. It is not that Fisher is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. The Sainristil pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Job largely done: safety settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Graham Barton
In pick 28 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick51
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Worthy at pick No. 51, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick84
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil at Round 3, Pick 20 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick89
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
A tidy little value on Jaden Hicks in the 89th overall pick, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick98
Rnd3
Blake Fisher
A want over a need in the Round 3 slot: Blake Fisher adds an offensive lineman while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick134
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson slid further than he should have, and slot 134 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick146
Rnd5
Xavier Thomas
The board had cheaper options than Xavier Thomas at Round 5, Pick 10, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
Value said wait; Jaylan Ford in the 174th overall pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
