Draft Grade — Steelers

FutureB
Grand theft in the Round 3 slot: the Steelers steal Polk and grade out a B+. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Ja'Lynn Polk got past him. The Steelers do not have to explain a thing at slot 98. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Steelers indulged a want in Fisher while a need in quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick51
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
A straight-up fair deal on Zach Frazier at the 51st pick, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick61
Rnd2
Blake Fisher
A curious use of the 61st overall pick. Quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Blake Fisher did not.
Pick92
Rnd3
Max Melton
Circle this one: Max Melton at slot 92 is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick93
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
A tidy little value on Calen Bullock in pick No. 93, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick98
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick119
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
A want over a need in No. 119: Matt Goncalves adds an offensive lineman while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick135
Rnd4
Xavier Thomas
A reach on Xavier Thomas in pick 135; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick178
Rnd6
Kalen King
A reach for Kalen King in the 178th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
