Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB+
FutureB-
The Steelers checked most of the boxes and earned a B. Nobody else had Dylan McMahon anywhere near No. 202. The Steelers did, by 38 spots, and that gap is the whole story. No fireworks, but a solid B.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Lassiter. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They will answer for taking offensive lineman early while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots went begging.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In pick No. 27 they get an anchor for the offensive line. More want than need.
Pick51
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Legette at slot 51, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick69
Rnd3
Kingsley Suamataia
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Kingsley Suamataia at offensive lineman with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots open.
Pick84
Rnd3
Kamari Lassiter
They barely believed it either: Kamari Lassiter still on the board at the 84th pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick98
Rnd3
Kamren Kinchens
They paid sticker price for Kamren Kinchens in No. 98, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick104
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
A conviction pick on Brenden Rice at the 104th overall pick that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick110
Rnd4
Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis at the 110th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick119
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Matt Goncalves in No. 119 leaves quarterback, edge rusher and other spots for later.
Pick178
Rnd6
Kalen King
Kalen King in Round 6, Pick 3 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick195
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford in slot 195 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick202
Rnd6
Dylan McMahon
This one needs a full-page explanation: Dylan McMahon in pick 202, miles early. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
