Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B

FutureB-
The Steelers won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B. If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Steelers, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Suamataia pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, edge rusher and other spots. Rice has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
The Suamataia value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at No. 26 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick51
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Good price on Xavier Worthy in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick84
Rnd3
Kingsley Suamataia
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Kingsley Suamataia while clear needs at quarterback, edge rusher and other spots sat open.
Pick89
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
By-the-book stuff, Calen Bullock at the 89th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick91
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in Round 3, Pick 28; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick98
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
A wild overpay on Brenden Rice in slot 98, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick119
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
A reach on Leonard Taylor III in pick No. 119; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick122
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 122 on Zak Zinter with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots unsolved.
Pick161
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
Nice patience on Mason McCormick, who had no business lasting to the 161st pick. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick180
Rnd6
Kalen King
Kalen King in pick 180 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
