Ejw DRAFTING FOR THEJets

Draft Grade — Jets
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Jets did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Jets started one anyway for Dont'e Thornton Jr., 38 picks ahead of schedule. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
That is an interior defensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In slot 7 they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick42
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen in Round 2, Pick 10 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick73
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick110
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. is a better player than No. 110 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick145
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dont'e Thornton Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick162
Rnd5
Elijah Roberts
A big swing on Elijah Roberts at the 162nd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick186
Rnd6
CJ West
CJ West in pick 186 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick207
Rnd6
Oronde Gadsden II
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where Oronde Gadsden II graded well above the range. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
