Draft Grade — Bears
Overall F
ValueB NeedB- TradesF FutureF
The Bears drew a line under the quarterback search with Williams: F.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The board sounded every alarm, and the F is the fallout.

So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Coleman.

They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In pick No. 1 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick6 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
Brock Bowers in the 6th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In slot 9 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick22 Rnd1 Byron Murphy II
In No. 22 they get a disruptive interior force. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick50 Rnd2 Tyler Nubin
Nice patience on Tyler Nubin, who had no business lasting to pick 50. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick53 Rnd2 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
No edge and no loss on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 53rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75 Rnd3 Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman at Round 3, Pick 11 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick97 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
No drama and no debate, Christian Mahogany went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Pick171 Rnd5 Walter Rouse
They took Walter Rouse at par in Round 5, Pick 35, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick240 Rnd7 KT Leveston
KT Leveston in the 240th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
