Draft Grade — Saints
Overall D+
ValueF NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
The Saints have some explaining to do: D+.

Boards are made to be trusted, and the Saints shredded theirs for Dayon Hayes. He came off 256 spots early, and the room will hear about it. The math is unkind, and the D+ follows.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Ward. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Que Robinson
Que Robinson at the 9th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick40 Rnd2 Dayon Hayes
They reached into another round for Dayon Hayes, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick71 Rnd3 Luke Kandra
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Luke Kandra well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick93 Rnd3 Kenneth Grant
They barely believed it either: Kenneth Grant still on the board at pick 93. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick111 Rnd4 Tai Felton
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Tai Felton in No. 111, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick130 Rnd4 Ja'Quinden Jackson
Ja'Quinden Jackson in the Round 4 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick186 Rnd6 Shemar James
They talked themselves into Shemar James at pick No. 186, and the board did not agree. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick254 Rnd7 Cam Ward
They will replay Cam Ward at slot 254 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
