The jury is out on the Bills. For now, C+. The war room fell hard for Josiah Ezirim, and it showed at the 204th pick: 88 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain. However the rest shakes out, Means at that price is a win they earned.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Darius Robinson
They paid up for Darius Robinson at No. 28 when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick60
Rnd2
Marshawn Kneeland
Marshawn Kneeland at pick No. 60 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick128
Rnd4
Cornelius Johnson
Cornelius Johnson at Round 4, Pick 28 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick133
Rnd4
Jordan Jefferson
A real head-scratcher, Jordan Jefferson in the 133rd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick144
Rnd5
Khristian Boyd
This one needs a full-page explanation: Khristian Boyd in the 144th overall pick, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick160
Rnd5
M.J. Devonshire
A swing that ignored the value entirely, M.J. Devonshire well ahead of where he belonged. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick163
Rnd5
Trey Taylor
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trey Taylor. It fills a real need, too.
Pick200
Rnd6
Julian Pearl
Julian Pearl in pick No. 200 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick204
Rnd6
Josiah Ezirim
They reached into another round for Josiah Ezirim, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick248
Rnd7
Bub Means
Bub Means at No. 248 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
