Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB
The Panthers found their guy under center in Maye: D.

Boards are made to be trusted, and the Panthers shredded theirs for Tyler Harrell. He came off 32 spots early, and the room will hear about it. The math is unkind, and the D follows.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. So much rides on Drake Maye that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The Murphy II pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with safety still on the board.

They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In pick 6 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Pick14 Rnd1 JC Latham
No drama and no debate, JC Latham went about where he belonged in pick No. 14. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick21 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
Dallas Turner at the 21st pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick23 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In slot 23 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick26 Rnd1 T'Vondre Sweat
In No. 26 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. More want than need.
Pick29 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get an island corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick34 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka at the Round 2 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick38 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
A reach on Chris Braswell in the 38th pick; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick65 Rnd3 Byron Murphy II
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went interior defensive lineman with Byron Murphy II while clear needs at safety sat open.
Pick70 Rnd3 Blake Corum
A straight-up fair deal on Blake Corum at pick No. 70, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick101 Rnd4 Brenden Rice
A premium they did not need to pay, Brenden Rice a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick122 Rnd4 Junior Colson
By-the-book stuff, Junior Colson at the 122nd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick126 Rnd4 Donovan Jackson
Good price on Donovan Jackson in Round 4, Pick 26, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
Pick138 Rnd5 Cade Stover
No edge and no loss on Cade Stover in slot 138; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick164 Rnd5 Theo Johnson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Theo Johnson. It fills a real need, too.
Pick222 Rnd7 Tyler Harrell
Tyler Harrell at pick No. 222 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
