Tc2324 DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Patriots: B. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Patriots took Drew Kendall a full 54 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
However the rest shakes out, Williams at that price is a win they earned. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
By-the-book stuff, Abdul Carter at the 4th pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
The board fumbled Tyler Warren all the way to pick No. 38, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Pick69
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
They liked Ozzy Trapilo enough to skip the value, taking him in the 69th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick77
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Somehow Jayden Higgins was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick106
Rnd4
Cameron Williams
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 4 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Pick144
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
A clean, defensible pick in slot 144 with a little surplus value in Malachi Moore. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick217
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
Nice patience on Donovan Edwards, who had no business lasting to No. 217. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick220
Rnd7
Nazir Stackhouse
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Nazir Stackhouse at slot 220 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick238
Rnd7
Drew Kendall
Drew Kendall at Round 7, Pick 22 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
