Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Commanders turned the phones into found money: A-.

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Commanders came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.

The Lachey reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Landing Roberts that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Adding Isaac Seumalo by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 16 with a little surplus value in Chop Robinson. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick36 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
Troy Fautanu in pick 36 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick37 Rnd2 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
They went early on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 37th pick, and the value did not follow. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick68 Rnd3 Quinyon Mitchell
Quinyon Mitchell slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick78 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany at slot 78 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick80 Rnd3 Luke Lachey
A big swing on Luke Lachey at Round 3, Pick 16, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick100 Rnd3 Will Shipley
Will Shipley at the 100th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick104 Rnd4 Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams in No. 104 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick141 Rnd5 Kedon Slovis
A straight-up fair deal on Kedon Slovis at No. 141, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick182 Rnd6 Jamari Thrash
Nice patience on Jamari Thrash, who had no business lasting to pick No. 182. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick225 Rnd7 Willie Roberts
They barely believed it either: Willie Roberts still on the board at Round 7, Pick 5. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
