The Eagles fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. The Princewill Umanmielen selection is the head-turner. The Eagles reached 140 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick No. 31 they get a three-down second-level presence, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick32
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In the 32nd overall pick they get a red-zone target to build around at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick54
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Nothing to complain about; Dillon Thieneman went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick98
Rnd3
Malik Muhammad
A cornerback of that caliber at slot 98 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick122
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
A straight-up fair deal on Zachariah Branch at pick 122, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick131
Rnd4
Princewill Umanmielen
They talked themselves into Princewill Umanmielen at No. 131, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick136
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick151
Rnd5
Michael Trigg
Value with a capital V on Michael Trigg in slot 151, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick179
Rnd5
Kage Casey
Steal is underselling it; Kage Casey at the 179th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
