FutureB-
The Eagles let Gordon II fall and pounced. Final grade: B-. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Ollie Gordon II, the No. 174 name on the board, stolen at pick 204. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The Simon pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots. The Pegues reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Jalon Walker
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jalon Walker at pick 32. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick64
Rnd2
Darien Porter
The board had cheaper options than Darien Porter at Round 2, Pick 32, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick96
Rnd3
Sebastian Castro
Nice patience on Sebastian Castro, who had no business lasting to pick No. 96. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick134
Rnd4
Cody Simon
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cody Simon at linebacker with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots open.
Pick161
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at slot 161 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick165
Rnd5
Jake Briningstool
No edge and no loss on Jake Briningstool in the 165th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick168
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
A conviction pick on JJ Pegues at No. 168 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick204
Rnd6
Ollie Gordon II
Circle this one: Ollie Gordon II at the 204th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
