Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureD+
Oladapo should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B.

If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Patriots, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend.

Landing Oladapo that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The cost of the Puni reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In the 3rd pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick34 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
A tidy little value on Brian Thomas Jr. in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
Nothing to complain about; J.J. McCarthy went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick68 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
They reached a country mile for Dominick Puni at Round 3, Pick 4, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick108 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher at pick No. 108 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick129 Rnd4 Josh Newton
They let Josh Newton come to them and pounced at the 129th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick137 Rnd5 Jalyx Hunt
A conviction pick on Jalyx Hunt at the 137th pick that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick167 Rnd5 Jaheim Bell
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaheim Bell in Round 5, Pick 31. It fills a real need, too.
Pick180 Rnd6 Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo in pick 180 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick193 Rnd6 Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick231 Rnd7 Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio at the 231st overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
