Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B

Nobody dealt better than the Patriots this weekend: B.

There is reaching, and then there is Spencer Rattler at the 35th overall pick. The Patriots jumped the board by 56 and dared it to prove them wrong.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Sanders falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In the 3rd overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 Spencer Rattler
A wild overpay on Spencer Rattler in slot 35, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick36 Rnd2 Graham Barton
A reasonable price with a little left over, Graham Barton in the 36th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick68 Rnd3 Ja'Tavion Sanders
A slide stopped in No. 68, with Ja'Tavion Sanders worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick103 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis in the Round 4 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick139 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in pick No. 139 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick182 Rnd6 Jaylan Ford
Fair-plus on Jaylan Ford, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick224 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
They paid a round early for Joshua Cephus in the 224th pick, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick232 Rnd7 Dylan McMahon
Dylan McMahon in No. 232 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
