Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Cowboys won the night they stopped Bryant from sliding. Grade: B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Pat Bryant got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at the Round 5 slot. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will need Cross III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In No. 12 they get a featured back, outstanding value to boot.
Pick44
Rnd2
T.J. Sanders
T.J. Sanders at Round 2, Pick 12 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick76
Rnd3
Chris Paul Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Chris Paul Jr. at the 76th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick149
Rnd5
Brashard Smith
The board had Brashard Smith higher than pick 149, and the running back fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
Pick174
Rnd5
Pat Bryant
They barely believed it either: Pat Bryant still on the board at slot 174. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick204
Rnd6
Addison West
Addison West at the Round 6 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick211
Rnd6
Howard Cross III
Howard Cross III in pick No. 211 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Pick217
Rnd7
Jay Toia
Jay Toia slipping to the 217th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick239
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
They let Jordan Hancock come to them and pounced at No. 239. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jabbar Muhammad
Jabbar Muhammad at pick No. 247 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
