Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB
The 49ers cashed the board's mistake on Castro: D+.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The 49ers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Collins has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

On value alone, Castro makes the weekend a net positive.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Shemar Stewart
In slot 20 they get a double-digit-sack hope. A real need, handled.
Pick30 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In pick 30 they get a red-zone target to build around at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick45 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
They paid up for Alfred Collins at the 45th pick when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick64 Rnd2 Carson Schwesinger
They took Carson Schwesinger at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick93 Rnd3 Darien Porter
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Darien Porter at Round 3, Pick 29 is the proof. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick110 Rnd4 Sebastian Castro
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Sebastian Castro in pick No. 110, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick129 Rnd4 Jake Majors
They paid sticker price for Jake Majors in No. 129, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick138 Rnd4 Jordan James
Jordan James at pick No. 138 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick148 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Pat Bryant. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
