FutureA
Larceny in the 74th pick lands the Falcons a A-, Lassiter and all. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Falcons were there to profit. Kamari Lassiter, the No. 40 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 74. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
The Hart pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still on the board. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Julian Blackmon pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Bottom line, with Rome Odunze leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
Rome Odunze in slot 15 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick43
Rnd2
Amarius Mims
They robbed the room for Amarius Mims here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick48
Rnd2
Troy Franklin
Circle this one: Troy Franklin at No. 48 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick74
Rnd3
Kamari Lassiter
They barely believed it either: Kamari Lassiter still on the board at the 74th overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick79
Rnd3
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy in pick No. 79 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick108
Rnd4
Cam Hart
A want over a need in pick 108: Cam Hart adds a cornerback while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick142
Rnd5
Roger Rosengarten
No drama and no debate, Roger Rosengarten went about where he belonged in Round 5, Pick 6. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick190
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern at the Round 6 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick196
Rnd6
Luke McCaffrey
You do not let a wide receiver like Luke McCaffrey reach the 196th overall pick and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
