Draft Grade — Falcons

The Falcons cashed the board's mistake on Wiggins: B-.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Nate Wiggins, the No. 20 name on the board, stolen at pick 43. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

Spending an early pick on cornerback with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They are betting Wiley proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In pick 8 they get a problem off the edge. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Nate Wiggins
Circle this one: Nate Wiggins at No. 43 is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick74 Rnd3 Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker in the 74th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick79 Rnd3 Kris Abrams-Draine
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 3 slot on Kris Abrams-Draine with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots unsolved.
Pick109 Rnd4 Spencer Rattler
A conviction pick on Spencer Rattler at slot 109 that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick143 Rnd5 Roger Rosengarten
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Roger Rosengarten at pick No. 143. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick187 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jared Wiley this early at the 187th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick197 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
Cornelius Johnson at Round 6, Pick 22 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
