Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall
B+
ValueB-

FutureB
Penix Jr. is the plan now, and the Falcons grade out a B+. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Falcons spent their marquee pick on Michael Penix Jr., and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Holker pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They banked enough surplus on Hart to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Michael Penix Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a franchise quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T'Vondre Sweat. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick48
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins in the 48th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick74
Rnd3
Patrick Paul
A tidy little value on Patrick Paul in slot 74, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk in No. 75 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick79
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick108
Rnd4
Cam Hart
Cam Hart slid further than he should have, and the 108th overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick142
Rnd5
Dallin Holker
Dallin Holker in pick No. 142 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick186
Rnd6
Jordan Jefferson
They took Jordan Jefferson at par in No. 186, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick196
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
No edge and no loss on Jared Wiley in the 196th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
