razimp75 DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Patriots: B-. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Patriots spent pick No. 238 on Gino Garcia, a name the board had a full 63 spots lower. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
That is a tight end worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In the 4th overall pick they get a lead back with juice. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Warren at the 38th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick69
Rnd3
Tre Harris
Tre Harris in No. 69 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick77
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ozzy Trapilo. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick106
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
They let Darius Alexander come to them and pounced at pick 106. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick144
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune in Round 5, Pick 6 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick217
Rnd7
Craig Woodson
No drama and no debate, Craig Woodson went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 1. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick220
Rnd7
Donovan Smith
They left a pile of value on the table to take Donovan Smith this early at pick 220. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick238
Rnd7
Gino Garcia
A wild overpay on Gino Garcia in the 238th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
