Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueC NeedB- TradesA+ FutureC+
The Steelers fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B.

The Steelers torched the value chart for Carson Steele, taking him 91 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

It is not that Frazier is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. The Justin Fields pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
In pick 18 they get a cornerstone up front, even if it was a touch early. More want than need.
Pick55 Rnd2 Denzel Burke
A straight-up fair deal on Denzel Burke at the 55th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick78 Rnd3 Zach Frazier
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Zach Frazier adds an offensive lineman and leaves quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Pick118 Rnd4 Max Melton
Max Melton at the 118th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick123 Rnd4 James Williams
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on James Williams. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick160 Rnd5 Jaylan Ford
No edge and no loss on Jaylan Ford in pick No. 160; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick196 Rnd6 Ricky Pearsall
By-the-book stuff, Ricky Pearsall at Round 6, Pick 21 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick203 Rnd6 Carson Steele
A big swing on Carson Steele at slot 203, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Pick239 Rnd7 Joshua Gray
They paid sticker price for Joshua Gray in the 239th overall pick, and that is fine. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
