The Bears bet the future on Williams. The board says D-.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They will need Johnson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

The Williams pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman and linebacker. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
