A passer of the future in McCarthy, and a D, for the Bears.

The tape said wait; the Bears did not. AJ Barner went at No. 132, a good 40 picks before the board was ready. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Everything downstream of J.J. McCarthy depends on J.J. McCarthy, and the building knows it. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

The Williams pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and linebacker still on the board. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Fiske.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
