Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Bears left with their quarterback, and a D- to match. Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Put together, it is a D-.
The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Spending an early pick on S-EDGE with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
The Rice reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The Fisher value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In slot 9 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick51
Rnd2
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in No. 51 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
They went early on Sedrick Van Pran in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick84
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A reach for Zak Zinter in the 84th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick111
Rnd4
Audric Estime
Audric Estime at the 111th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick120
Rnd4
Malik Washington
They took Malik Washington at par in pick 120, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick121
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Circle this one: Blake Fisher at pick No. 121 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jalyx Hunt
A want over a need in the Round 4 slot: Jalyx Hunt adds a S-EDGE while edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick143
Rnd5
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at No. 143 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick197
Rnd6
Bub Means
Bub Means in the 197th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick238
Rnd7
Andre Sam
A conviction pick on Andre Sam at slot 238 that the board grades a round light. A minor need, but a need all the same.
