Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
Williams is the plan now, and the Bears grade out a D-.

When a board-topper like Dwight McGlothern slides to No. 238, you do not overthink it, and the Bears did not.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. With edge rusher and linebacker unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them.

Reaching for Barner left real value on the table behind him. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In the 1st pick they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Joe Alt
In the 9th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick51 Rnd2 Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske at slot 51 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75 Rnd3 Blake Corum
They liked Blake Corum enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 75. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick84 Rnd3 Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks in pick 84 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick111 Rnd4 Javon Solomon
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher and linebacker to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
Pick120 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
They went early on Johnny Wilson in the 120th pick, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Pick121 Rnd4 Beaux Limmer
Beaux Limmer in Round 4, Pick 21 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick123 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson in No. 123 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick143 Rnd5 AJ Barner
Value said wait; AJ Barner in the 143rd overall pick says they were not listening. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick197 Rnd6 Tahj Washington
Tahj Washington at Round 6, Pick 22 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick238 Rnd7 Dwight McGlothern
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 238 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
