A passer of the future in Williams, and a D-, for the Bears.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Bears started one anyway for AJ Barner, 38 picks ahead of schedule. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The Bears indulged a want in Smith while a need in edge rusher and offensive lineman stayed open.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Benson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
