Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
A passer of the future in Williams, and a D-, for the Bears.

Some picks age like wine; Tahj Washington at the 143rd overall pick will need to, sitting 49 spots clear of his grade.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off.

The Bears indulged a want in Barner while a need in linebacker stayed open. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

However the rest shakes out, Isaac at that price is a win they earned.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and linebacker is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
No edge and no loss on Rome Odunze in pick No. 9; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick51 Rnd2 Braden Fiske
No drama and no debate, Braden Fiske went about where he belonged in the 51st overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick74 Rnd3 Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks at No. 74 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick75 Rnd3 Blake Corum
The board had cheaper options than Blake Corum at Round 3, Pick 11, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick84 Rnd3 Adisa Isaac
Taking Adisa Isaac in slot 84 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick85 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at No. 85 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick110 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at pick 110 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick111 Rnd4 Beaux Limmer
They went early on Beaux Limmer in the 111th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick123 Rnd4 AJ Barner
Of all the spots to shop, they chose tight end. AJ Barner in the Round 4 slot leaves linebacker for later.
Pick142 Rnd5 Javon Foster
Somehow Javon Foster was still sitting there in pick No. 142, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick143 Rnd5 Tahj Washington
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tahj Washington in slot 143, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
